One of the first things that I do with my Mediumship Students to help them get comfortable with building their relationship with Spirit is to set a date with them.  These “dates with Spirit” are all about their connection and building rapport with loved ones on the Spirit side.  These are different from guided journeys and meditation, as those are for you and your connection with self.  Being in relationship with your higher self and with Spirit can help you in your day to day life, in making decisions and in finding peace.

Here are a few things to remember as you establish your own connection with Spirit.

Quiet.

Although a guided meditation is lovely and music lifts the soul, your date with Spirit is best when it is just you and Spirit.  Yes, your ego will likely pump up the volume, but as you become familiar with the differences between your ego, your higher guidance and Spirit you will build trust.  When we quiet the outside world, we are more aware of the senses being ignited and messages coming forward.

Just you and Spirit.

It is important to find a quiet space with no distractions.  Turning off your phone and other incoming distractions will help you to stay focused and open.  Some may like to do their dates in the woods, on their deck or even in their car if it ensures a peaceful and uninterrupted space.  These dates are not for practising readings with others.

Understand your why.

When you understand why you want to strengthen your connection with the Spirit world, you will have a better understanding of what intentions and goals to set.  For example, if you are wanting to enhance your connection with your loved ones for your own healing, that will look much different then gaining communication for the purpose of physical phenomenon.  One is a higher frequency and calling for peace, the other is a lower frequency looking for excitement and adrenaline.

Be comfortable.

When we address our physical comfort at the outset, it leaves less for the conscious mind to be distracted by.  Wearing lose and comfortable clothing, sitting in a chair that supports us and having the lighting “just right” can hold out physical body while our intuitive selves play.

Discover what validation looks like.

Validation or conformation will look different for everyone.  Spirit will use all of your senses to give you information and to validate when you have received the information correctly.  You may get a sensation like tingling, shivers or a temperature change like cool.  You may hear a verbal acknowledgement.  You may feel grandma near and then smell her famous cookies coming from the oven as validation.  The biggest thing to remember is to trust what you receive and then be open for what else is coming forward.

You can build and enhance your own connection with Spirit…one date at a time.
