Coaching is one of the fastest growing industries, worldwide and for good reason!  With the right coach, you gain significantly increase your revenue, introduce multiple revenue streams, enhance relationships with yourself and others and achieve the goals that you have been dreaming of.  The key to having successful results really depends on the coach that you are working with!  We have people that we jive with and people that we don’t.  Just as we all have people that pump us up and inspire us and people that really make us want to avoid them.  You can imagine, if you were working with a coach that you really did not like or respect, it is not likely that you are going to succeed as easily as with someone that gets you and what you really want.

Having been a coach, a trainer for coaches and a client, I can tell you that these simple steps make all of the difference!

Are they Genuine?  When you are with someone that really does not care about you or understand where you are going, it can be limiting and certainly not motivational.  Coaching is not the same as some other professions, such as medical or psychology or social work.  We are not working with people with significant issues, and as a result we can use our real experiences to help you.  Have a chat with your coach, read their content and watch some videos that they have posted!  This will give you some insight to their personality and you will quickly see if they are walking their talk!

You will also discover…Do you Like them?  Is your coach someone that you would like to be around?  You are going to be sharing personal information, sometimes things that you have never shared before.  You are going to be spending time with them, so some not as frequently and for others, quite frequently.  Although you can work through some tough stuff in a coaching session, you should look forward to going back!  You are going to be more likely to work on your tasks if you are excited to go to your next session with some results.

Are they Going to Call you on your Sh*t?  As a coach, I am going to call you on your stuff…and that is an essential part of my job!  Your coach is not your friend (well, sometimes they might be…as long as they can put their coach hat on to hold you accountable!), and you pay us to keep you on track.  Confidence is key in coaching, and you will see very quickly if this is lacking.  Let’s face it, coaching is not your first stop to success.  I often tease my students that “No one wakes up one morning and says…you know what I have never done before?  I have never worked with a coach!”  They have tried on their own to be successful, they have maybe had family or friends try to support them…and that key word “try” is what has prevented it all from coming together.  Coaches have a responsibility to have the tough conversations that family and friends may not be comfortable in having and/or you might not be comfortable in hearing.  It is not personal, it is what we are paid to do and it leads to you overcoming obstacles to reach your goal successfully.

Are they an expert?  Coaching is all about having perspective, insight and ideas!  Working with an expert in the field can really give you the shift in perspective to help you see a new way you had not considered before.  Coaches demonstrate their expertise in different ways.  They may post blogs or videos, conduct training or inspirational talks at different events or they may be an author, tv or radio host or host a mastermind.  Whatever their medium, great coaches are able to offer considerable insight and reach success with a variety of clients, within and outside of their expertise!

Have they Shifted Out of Ego?  We all have ego, and it is a delicate balance between being an expert and not allowing the Ego to lead the dance.  One of the things that I love about coaching is the ability to demonstrate vulnerability.  Great coaches are curious and open to possibility.  That is what enables them to help you open your mind and grow.  However, when a coach is in Ego mode, they easily fall in to the role of a consultant and that impacts your ability to be a part of your journey!

YOU deserve success!  And although you will be doing a lion’s share of the work in your success, your coach is there to inspire, create and celebrate with you!  You are paying for a valuable service!  Just as you are unique, so are each of the coaches out there!  Shop around and find the coach or coaches that are perfect for YOU!
